Motorola Mr350r Best Buy
I've been using Talkabouts since they first were introducted around 1998 with a two-mile advertized range and were well over a $100.00 per radio. Needless to say, they've come a long way since then. These current radios are reliable, have a good range, of course that's relative, and easy to use. The farest I have been able to reach is about 13 miles and that was a direct line of site with no obstructions from a mountain top at about 3100 feet to a valley floor at about 160 feet. They recently were invaluable during a backpacking trip where we got off trail and was able to make contact with our pick-up point about 2.5 miles away through a forest and over a 500 foot ridge. That contact saved an activation of the local Search and Rescue Team. We use them for car-to-car, car-to-motorcycle, backpacking, mountain biking, hiking, and sking. The extension mics come in very handy especially when wearing gloves. The quality with this Motorola unit has improved greatly over the years but it still has a few drawbacks. Motorola REALLY needs to develop a better belt clip system. Once the plastic part that hooks to a belt or strap bends outward, the clip is useless. Also, same thing when the little plastic tab breaks off that holds the clip to the radio. The clips are then ready for the recycle bin. I've also had bad experiences with the PTT button with older models and once with this model. This happens when the PTT depressed. A tone sounds, the screen goes blank, and you're unable to transmit. If you're not looking at the screen when this happens you assume you're transmitting because you have pressed the PTT button. Pretty annoying. The little LED light at the bottom it nice but unecessary. Motorola should dump the light and invest more into a reliable PTT button, a better belt clip, and extended range capabilities. Even with the drawbacks, it's still the best on the market and we don't leave home without them.

Excellent radio handset given the cost of the product. You can replace these handsets several times a year before you equal the costs of more expensive radios. Very useful in environments where your equipment may come up missing. These Motorola Radios have the best features and most versitle controls of all the brands we tested for use. We really liked the volume control knob versus a volume control button. Highly recommended.
I’m planning a three-month trip to the Big Island and wanted to have some way to keep in contact with my travel companions. We are thinking about buying a set of walkie talkies. If we purchase these in Ontario will they work in Hawaii? Or do we need to purchase them in Hawaii? Can you suggest the best model to buy? Diane Ontario, Canada
The second way is this: You really might as well take a couple of long lengths of string and some tin cans. At their best, radios such as the Motorolas have a range of about two miles. And that is before you factor in hills, water, weak batteries, and a million other things that have an impact on radio reception. This isnt a knock on the radios, but you could literally be 100 yards from each other, over the crest of a ridge, and you might as well be trying to reach Cousin Kloogie on Alpha Centauri.
To help you with your buying choice we have compiled a list of long range walkie talkies that we consider the best buys where long distance communication is concerned that are available to buy right now.
As well as the amazing value per mile, this handset has all kinds of other features, and the very reasonable price of the Uniden GMR5089 means that we feel this walkie talkie is the best long range walkie talkie buy we have reviewed.
Cobra is one of those manufacturers that does really make their walkie talkie models better with every release. The Cobra CXR925 comes with an advertised range of 35 miles, and is one of the best models of walkie talkie around.
To round off our top 5 of best long range walkie talkies we have the Motorola MS350R. This model by Motorola has an advertised range of 35 miles as well, and as expected the model just cannot make this claim true.

What is the best current model of the Motorola Talkabouts to purchase for skiing? I gather the 280SLK and the T-Series are no longer made, but I find today's models confusing so I need some help. The units must be rechargeable. Diane Roslyn, New York
Sometimes the best solution is the easiest one. With its unrivaled transmission distance and perfect simplicity, this three-buttoned device leaves us wondering how it works so well with such a comparably low price tag.
Operation of a two-way radio while on a General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) channel requires a license to legally operate. This is due to the possible safety hazards of radio waves at higher wattages. This can be overkill for the casual walkie talkie user, so we selected models that are sure to perform best without requiring a ham radio license.
e found that even some of the best-selling walkie talkies had large numbers of negative reviews and complaints of complete malfunction. Through our research, we aimed to buy and test models that were well-known and had a higher percentage of positive user reviews and feedback.
We decided to split our top picks into three categories: best overall, best on a budget, and best for kids. This is because the intended uses of walkie talkies can vary greatly from one person to another, and we wanted to cover all bases to help you find the best fit for your needs.
We also ran a couple of tests to find which models have the loudest max volume and the best quality and clarity of sound. Using a decibel meter, we fed audio of a consistent volume (a note on an electronic piano) into the sending walkie talkie while holding the meter one inch from the recipient walkie talkie. Our test for volume was short-lived, as the volume from each model proved to be almost exactly the same.
We spent three months evaluating so you can choose from the best sleeping pads possible to put a smile on your face as the golden sun rises above the horizon and reminds you that not only is every day precious, but yours to enjoy.
While the models we tested state a maximum distance of anywhere from 23 to 50 miles, the best walkie talkies we tested communicated reliably at the two-mile mark, and some did not perform even at that distance.
Pros: With features like a headset jack, hands-free communication, privacy codes and noise canceling, the Motorola Talkabout MR350R has all the best features of a modern two-way radio. This is also one of the lightest weight walkie talkies we reviewed at just over 6oz.

Ranking slightly higher in durability than the TLKR range, the XT420 offers great performance and substantial durability. This walkie-talkie has been recognised as one of the best starting solutions for businesses. The built in 1500mW loudspeaker is one of the best features of this radio. The wind-noise reduction ensures that you can hear and be heard more clearly. It is ideal for markets & shops, smaller hospitality venues or smaller schools, where louder environments and frequent shift changes are in place. It boasts an IP55 rating, meaning it is protected from dust and water. Interestingly, this device comes with an antimicrobial coating on the surface of the radio, leaving you free from the risk of bacterial build-up and germ growth.
Mobile Voting ensures the stability of the GP329 Ex in a regular multi-base network, allowing the wireless intercom to automatically select the strongest signal to deliver the best voice quality to the user.
You will love this device if it is for a short-range usage and is most reliable and fun to use on your vacations and trips. The hazard alarm provides an extra safety feature, if there is any problem on your vacation. The 11 weather channels provide accurate weather forecasts on their large websites. The new extra features like built in emergency flashlight and PTT power boost extends transmission range add to the reliability of the product. This new Motorola device is trendy with 20 different call tones. We can also use 3AA batteries. This makes this product truly long lasting, and the batter backup is amazing. The best feature is probably the sturdy and strong design that allows for a great grip. 041b061a72
