Engine feels sluggish – could it be the air filter?

My 2017 Focus has been a bit down on power lately, especially when accelerating from low speeds. No check engine light, fuel economy dropped a tad too. Changed spark plugs recently but no big difference. Thinking maybe the air filter is clogged? How often do you guys replace them on petrol engines?

A dirty air filter can definitely cause that sluggish feel- restricts airflow, messes with air-fuel mix, and the engine has to work harder. On modern cars with MAF sensors, it shows up as hesitation or reduced throttle response more than anything dramatic. I usually check mine every 15-20k km and replace if it's visibly dirty, especially if I drive dusty roads or in city traffic a lot. Last time I swapped it on my similar Ford, I grabbed one from https://elartcom.eu/categories/air-filters-24 - they have panel filters listed by make/model, including good aftermarket ones with multi-layer media for better filtration without choking flow. Fit was perfect, engine breathed easier right away- smoother acceleration and a small MPG bump back. No more flat spots. If yours hasn't been done in a while, pull it out and shine a light through; if you can't see much light, it's time. Their category makes matching easy- worth a look for direct replacements.
